AUTOTEST Company is a specialized Engineering Design/Build firm, Advanced Software Developer and integrated functional Automated Test Equipment (ATE) Manufacturer. Our unique blend of talented engineers are able to provide more than a typical solution for when the production engineer needs a more adaptable solution than what a typical instrument can provide. AUTOTEST’s goal from the start was to provide automated test systems and flexible ATE systems for power supplies, making us the first commercial manufacturer of Automated Power Supply Test Equipment globally. AUTOTEST has expanded its product line to include a full series of products…from desk top units to full featured and integrated rack mounted solutions. As a company, we have invested in people, design and support that help us achieve customer satisfaction and nurture long-term client relationships.
AUTOTEST Company was founded in 1977 by Mr. Robert W. Cox. Mr. Cox, an Electrical Engineering graduate of Texas A&M University, got the idea for the first ever Autotester as the Power Supply Test Engineering Manager for NCR/Scott Electronics in Florida. He discovered there were no companies making universal power test equipment to test power supplies. Since everyone needed this kind of test equipment and no one was manufacturing them, Cox made the decision to return home to San Antonio, Texas to design and build manual universal power supply testers. That’s were the story begins and a new industry was born. Since our inception, over 35 years ago we have been designing and manufacturing the best power supply testing systems in the industry.
Manufacturing (and marketing) electronic products is a long-suit of the Cox family. Bob's brother George M. Cox is President of Automatic Control Electronics Company (ACECO), also a San Antonio based business. In fact, it was Robert's brother George who encouraged Robert to go beyond manual universal testers ... to create a truly affordable and Automatic Power Supply Test System controlled through computer programming. Cox proceeded to design and manufacture a proto-type while operating a start-up company and operation out of his brother George's company. Automatic Control Electronics Company staff members assisted with the drafting and basic computer programming. Basic was truly the operative word. Not only was the program language actually written in BASIC, the programming information was then stored on an audio cassette tape (originally written in the era prior to floppy discs).
The first AUTOTEST ATE machine (UTS - 1900 shown on left) was completed in approximately 9 months, sold to ACDC Electronics in 1977, and remained in productive use until 1994. With several programming updates, of course.
AUTOTEST is a conservative, engineering-driven company with a strong belief in dependability, reliability and consistency from both a product and people standpoint. We are not a flashy, gimmicky, gizmo-oriented company. AUTOTEST is committed to the customer through careful attention to specific power supply related test issues and genuine, useful innovative advances.
One area in which AUTOTEST is uniquely different lies in the fact that we have standardized our systems on a basic form factor for the design of all models of our test equipment. Because of consistent product architecture, AUTOTEST is able to take the latest developments in technology and not only offer them to today's customer, but also offer expandability to existing customers with field "upgradeable" equipment. This continuity and compatibility of product proves AUTOTEST does not abandon previous customers when new technology is developed. A look at the electronics industry in general shows AUTOTEST has a longer life of compatibility than most hi-tech applications, and specifically, more than our competitors. Our software is one of the most advanced yet still the most user friendly in the industry.
AUTOTEST invests heavily in its Engineering Expertise. As a part of the AUTOTEST Service philosophy, the Engineering Department is as strong in Applications Engineering as it is in Hardware and Software Engineering. AUTOTEST prides itself in the expertise available within its departments in Power Product Manufacturing and Testing. As a standard portion of its business, AUTOTEST provides complete Turn-Key solutions to the Power Products industry. Not only does AUTOTEST provide application programs and fixtures for its products with the sale, but are happy to continue providing these solutions long after the sale. In fact, AUTOTEST has customers who only know how to operate their testers. AUTOTEST has been their Test Engineering Department from the very first sale.
The AUTOTEST philosophy of business really stems from one central thought - customer satisfaction. From this comes the realization that by satisfying specific customer needs, we can establish long-term working relationships that profit both them and us. We accomplish this by focusing on engineered solutions for power supply testing, and by representing our products with honesty and integrity.
As a company, we have invested in people, design and support that help us achieve customer satisfaction and nurture long-term client relationships. Our desire is to not only sell a customer one power supply test system today, but many more in the future as needed.
A satisfied customer means repeat business, and in many cases, new referral business. This new prospect philosophy directs and drives all of our efforts, from customer response and service to product design and development.
